Anonymous said...: The reason why E is correct is because twice refers to "20 percent of young adults", which is a count noun phrase, and as it is a count noun, the correct pronoun is "number" and not "those" (C) or "much"(D) as these are used to refer back to non-count nouns.; May 09, 2006 3:01 AM

Gaurav said...: When % or fraction comes as part of the subject , check for the object of the preposition. As such % and numbers are never comparable but we have to check the object of the preposition in mind.

75% of supply -> Here supply is uncountable
75% of students - Here student is countable

In the the above question D is wrong because "adults" is countable and so as much as is wrong. It should have been as many as; March 21, 2009 3:40 PM
